A Bit About Me
I am a nurse by professional background and retain my UK registration alongside my registration as a nurse educator.
I have extensive experience working with the elderly and people with disabilities as a nurse and a registered manager and director of elderly care facilities and hospices.
I have had a varied career which has afforded me many opportunities to develop a broad understanding of health and social care provision in the UK. My recent posts include being the registered manager of a nursing home as well as director of nursing, and registered manager, of two UK hospices.
Prior to this I spent a little over 10 years as a senior lecturer and director for the post registration and graduate pathways for nursing and allied health and social care professions. And before all that I worked as a senior nurse in the Kidney Care Unit at King's College in London.
I have been writing professionally since 1990, in that time I have published over 400 articles, 10 or so book chapters and six books (many in multiple editions). My main USP with my writing is to make the complex simple.
As well as writing for publication I am an active peer reviewer for several publishers including, Sage, Mark Allen and Wiley. I am consultant editor of the Journal of Kidney Care.
As well as nursing texts, I have worked on other textbooks as a consultant including NHS history, patient education and health-related books for children.
I write policies and blogs for social care providers. I enable people to register with the CQC and OFSTED and act as a mentor to a growing health and social care businesses.
